Susan L. Hart, MA, LPC, NCC
A Board-Certified, Licensed Professional
Counselor with advanced credentials in personality
theory, Susan Hart has worked in the professional counseling field since
1994. She earned a
Master of Arts in Counseling from the University of Alabama at Birmingham
(UAB), and a
Bachelors degree from Samford University. In addition to her position
at Trinity
Counseling, Susan has worked at the UAB Counseling & Wellness Center since
1996
and has been the Director of this program since 1998.
At UAB Susan provides personal counseling
services for students, administrates and
supervises the professional counseling staff and provides training for
Masters-level interns.
In addition to designing and implementing a variety of health-related
programs and
workshops for students and staff throughout the year, Susan has taught
a fall freshman
success course over the past four years. She is also the UAB liaison to
the Campus
Ministry Association, and a member of six professional associations.
Earlier in her life, Susan spent a total
of two years involved in international Christian
training and relief work. In the process she lived in Cyprus, Israel,
Switzerland and Canada,
and traveled extensively in more than ten other countries. Altogether
she has lived in four
states, attended seven universities, earned three degrees, studied five
languages, and
climbed eight 14,000 ft peaks. In 2004 Susan trained with the American
Red Cross as a
Mental Health Disaster Relief Volunteer... skills she put to good use
working with
Trinity Counseling’s outreach to Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
Susan sees her counseling mission as the
embodiment of her spiritual ethos to enhance the
quality of life and ease human suffering. She feels she has been called
to, “...bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives...and
to comfort those who mourn...”
Or as she would simply say, “helping others to live well”.
Susan’s 20-year-old son, Seth, is currently
living in New Zealand, working with an
international Christian training and missions program. Her 19-year-old
daughter, Ciera,
lives at home while working and pursuing studies at UAB. Susan enjoys
many types of
challenging adventures including remodeling, making stained glass designs,
snow skiing,
mountain climbing, and exploring various facets of the wondrous natural
world
- in addition to her lifetime commitment to ongoing learning and growth.
